Outdoor kitchen materials can look beautiful on day one—but will they still perform years from now?
Choosing the right outdoor kitchen materials is one of the most important decisions you’ll make when designing a space that’s built to last.
In this episode of The Outdoor Kitchen Experience, we break down what “outdoor-rated” really means and why an outdoor kitchen should never be treated like an indoor kitchen moved into the backyard.
Rain, humidity, direct sunlight, freezing temperatures, salt air, insects, and intense grill heat can all put outdoor kitchen construction materials to the test. Wood can swell, warp, rot, or attract insects. Certain metals can rust or corrode. Cement board and layered finishes can face challenges when exposed to moisture, freeze-thaw cycles, and changing outdoor conditions.
That’s why RTA Outdoor Living takes a different approach. Our primary outdoor kitchen system uses high-performance, microfiber-reinforced concrete structural panels designed specifically for outdoor environments. Concrete doesn’t rust or rot, and its non-combustible properties make it well suited for an outdoor cooking space.
But the structure is only part of the equation.
Outdoor-rated appliances also matter. We’ll explain why grills, refrigerators, burners, doors, and storage need to be selected with exterior exposure in mind—and why RTA commonly pairs its kitchens with Coyote outdoor appliances constructed with 304 stainless steel.
You’ll also learn why choosing a grill involves more than looks. Fuel type, appliance dimensions, ventilation, clearances, service access, cooking habits, and the overall kitchen layout all need to work together.
