Whether you already own an outdoor pizza oven or you’re thinking about purchasing one… at one point or another, you’ll turn your attention to pizza oven accessories.

And, more specifically: “What are the best pizza oven accessories?”

It’s a great question, and of course… everyone seems to have an opinion about it! As an outdoor kitchen manufacturer that often sells pizza ovens to our customers, we’ve learned what accessories are most commonly used.

In this article, you’ll learn about the best outdoor pizza oven accessories and the best way to improve your pizza making experience.

what are the best pizza oven accessories?

1. Pizza Peel

Pizza peels are an absolute essential pizza oven accessory… to the point where most outdoor pizza ovens you buy come with one right in the box!

You’ll need a pizza peel to prep your pie on, and subsequently launch it into the oven with relative ease. Some experienced pizza makers prefer to have two peels on hand: a wooden one for launching the pizza, and a metal one for retrieving it. But if you only have room for one, go with the metal.

2. Pizza Turner

While you can also use your pizza peel to turn your pizza… many people prefer the convenience a pizza turner offers. Most turning peels are small and circular, allowing you to easily rotate the pizza in the oven while it’s cooking. Turning peels are especially handy if you have an outdoor pizza oven with a small opening, as they’re easier to maneuver than a traditional pizza peel.

3. Infrared Thermometer

How do you know your pizza stone is hot enough to cook with? An infrared thermometer is a surefire way to know your pizzas are ready to fire! Some pizza ovens come with a built-in thermometer, but these won’t tell you exactly what the temperature of the stone is. A hot stone is what gives you a good char, so an accurate temperature reading is important!

In addition to making sure your pizza stone is properly preheated… an infrared thermometer will also help you keep track of temperatures in between pizza bakes. If you’re cranking through multiple pizzas, you need the heat of your stone to recover before throwing on the next pie.

4. Pizza Cutter

A good quality pizza cutter is worth its weight in gold. And while you likely already have a pizza cutter sitting in your kitchen drawer somewhere… when you buy an outdoor pizza oven, it’s likely worth picking up a new, heavy-duty pizza cutter that can snap through crispy crusts with ease.

5. Ash Rake

After a few bakes, your outdoor pizza oven is going to get a little dirty on the inside. While some pizza oven owners prefer to just burn off the debris at high heat… others like to physically remove ashes from the pizza oven stone.

Pizza oven brushes are popular, but like grill brushes, it could be dangerous if a bristle comes off and accidentally gets ingested during your next cook. An ash rake is a good, bristle-less way to keep your pizza stones clean.

6. Pizza Oven Cover

If your outdoor pizza oven doesn’t already come with one, it’s well-worth investing in a cover if you plan to store it outside full time. Especially in cooler climates that experience a lot of snow and ice… an added layer of fabric will go a long way towards keeping your pizza oven in optimal condition for the long-term.
