How Durable Is an RTA Outdoor Kitchen? Watch This First

Most outdoor kitchens look great on day one—but how durable is an RTA outdoor kitchen after years of real weather exposure? If you’re worried about cracking, rust, or structural failure, this video gives you clear, honest answers.
In this episode of The Outdoor Kitchen Experience, we break down exactly how an RTA outdoor kitchen holds up to rain, snow, sun, freeze-thaw cycles, and everyday use. You’ll learn why outdoor kitchens fail over time—and why material choice is the single biggest factor in long-term durability.
We walk through the most common environmental threats homeowners face, starting with moisture. Steel frames can rust from the inside out, and cement board slowly absorbs water, leading to breakdown. RTA outdoor kitchens are built with solid concrete panels that don’t rot, swell, or rely on coatings to survive outdoors.
If you live in a cold climate, we explain how freeze-thaw cycles destroy layered materials and why concrete has been trusted for decades in outdoor infrastructure. You’ll also see how UV exposure impacts common outdoor kitchen materials—and why concrete remains structurally stable year after year.
Finally, we talk about real-world use. Outdoor kitchens get leaned on, bumped, and worked hard. A rigid concrete structure prevents wobbling, shifting, and long-term structural failure.
This is why RTA Outdoor Living never uses steel frames or cement board—and why durability is built into every kitchen from the start.

Most outdoor kitchens look great on day one, but how are they going to look after 5, 10, 15 years in the elements? Rain, snow, blazing sun, freeze, thaw cycles. [music] These things destroy more kitchens than most people are aware of. If you’re worried about cracking, rusting, structural failing, you’re not alone. In this video, I’ll show you exactly how durable an RTA kitchen is and why it’s built to last for years to come. Hi, I’m Phil with RTA Outdoor Living. Today we’re answering a question

00:31
we get all the time. How durable is an RTA outdoor kitchen year overyear when it comes to weather? We’re going to walk you through rain, snow, freeze thaw cycles, and even impact and explain why our concrete panel construction makes such a big difference. One of the biggest killers for outdoor kitchens is moisture. Traditional builds often use steel frame systems or cement board. Both of these have major weaknesses. Steel frames can rust after moisture gets into the system and cement board, well that can absorb water, leading to

01:02
issues on its own. RTA kitchens are built using solid concrete panels. They don’t absorb water and they don’t rot. That means [music] heavy rains, humidity, or even standing moisture won’t compromise [music] the structure over time. The material itself is waterproof. If you live in cold climates, freeze thaw cycles can be a serious concern. Water can get into small cracks, freeze, expand, and slowly destroy the structural integrity of a system. Concrete panels are specifically

01:34
designed to handle these freeze, thaw cycles. They don’t swell, they don’t warp, and they don’t separate the way layered materials can. That’s why concrete has been used for decades in outdoor infrastructure, and it’s been proven to hold up even in extreme weather conditions. Sun damage is another issue people often underestimate. UV exposure breaks down many materials over time. This includes composits and [music] coatings. Concrete, on the other hand, doesn’t degrade under UV exposure the same way plastics and resins do. The actual RTA

02:05
structure [music] is going to remain stable and solid year after year. Outdoor kitchens get used. People lean on them, bump into them, and move appliances in and out over time. A weak frame can cause that kitchen to shift, flex, and even crack under that stress. Concrete panels, however, are incredibly strong and rigid, which means your kitchen won’t wobble, it won’t rock, and it won’t fall out of square over time. The structural integrity is a big reason why RTA stands behind its

02:38
construction with long-term durability claims. This is where we’re very different than other outdoor kitchens on the market. We don’t use steel frames or cement [music] board ever. These materials, while easier to get and possibly cheaper, they’re not built to last outdoors for decades. Our entire system is designed around the idea that you shouldn’t have to rebuild your outdoor kitchen every few years. Our concrete gives us the confidence to say this is a lifetime structure, not a temporary solution. If durability is a top priority for your outdoor kitchen,
