know what they’re talking about let me show you how griddle seasoning is really done all right before we get started seasoning these griddles we got to clear the air on something if you didn’t watch our first video we discussed the differences in carbon steel cast iron griddles of compared to
0:45
that of the stainless steel varieties if you haven’t watched the video follow the link in the description below give it a view in the mean time let’s give you a refresher on what we have here cast iron carbon steel more commonly found in your Blackstone, Evo, Camp Chefs it’s going to be
1:00
the more affordable option however it is going to be more prone to rusting so it does require a a little bit more care and maintenance on the other side of things you have the stainless steel variety this is more commonly found in built-in outdoor kitchen models such as Coyote, Lynx, Blaze
1:15
typically a more expensive product uh but General care and maintenance is significantly easier the difference in these materials is going to impact how you season each one of them to get things
1:30
started we’re going to go over to the Blackstone and work on this cast iron top couple things it’s not required to do after every cook but if you use acidic foods like tomatoes or if you do pork with some barbecue sauce or if you just have the feeling that it’s just not right things are
1:45
sticking when they should be sliding it’s probably time for a re-seasoning a couple things that we’re going to use to help get the job done we got some oil we always use avocado oil we got some paper towels that’s just going to help us apply the the oil evenly throughout the surface we got our tongs
2:00
and of course we got our high heat gloves to make sure we’re doing it safely let’s get to it you want to make sure you’re starting with a clean griddle and then we just follow the Steps step one get our Oil we’re going to apply it basically over the entire griddle surface follow that up
2:15
with your paper towel you want to make sure to get in every nook and cranny on this thing that is to prevent rust any exposed area will be more prone to rusting so you just want to make sure you got
2:30
it covered and then we’re going to turn these things up to medium high heat our oil smokes at about a 450 temp so that’s what we’re looking for once we see that smoke we’re going to finish it up
3:00
all right as you can see here we got the smoke going uh next steps we just want to grab our
3:15
tongs make sure you got your gloves in place grab our tongs grab our paper towels as you can see the Smoke’s blowing couple things to look out for it you notice we have a couple pooling areas here that’s why we’re going to follow up with the tongs and paper towels we just want
3:30
to make sure the oil is even throughout so just pretty simple we’re just going to go around the entire thing just very similar to what we did on the first steps we just want to make sure that oil is nice and even throughout there’s no pulling we if there is just go through them make
3:45
sure you get everything even out it’s going to continue to smoke that’s just fine as soon as the smoke starts to dissipate that’s when you know the job is done so just make sure you got
4:00
the oil nice and even and you’re well on your way to a seasoned griddle all right that’s basically re-seasoning your griddle nothing too complicated right doesn’t take too much time you just got to
4:15
be patient while you get to the smoking temp if you are starting brand new you have a Fresh grill right out of the box a couple steps you want to follow first first things first you just want to take take some dish soap and some water and a sponge clean off the initial
4:30
chemicals that are on that and then guess what you’re just going to follow these exact same steps other than that you just want to make sure you repeat it maybe three to four times and then you’re going to be ready to go for that initial cook now let’s jump over here to the stainless
4:45
steel griddle and we’re going to show you how to season this all right let’s talk about seasoning your stainless steel griddle it’s going to be a little different than let’s say our cast iron process it’s not going to require the amount of layers that you have to undertake with those um
5:00
that’s one of the perks of it first step you just want to get some dish soap some water and just clean off the initial chemicals when you get it right out of the pack but as far as seasoning you’re only going to need a few things got the oil of your choice we use avocado uh water
5:15
that’s just going to help create a little steam on the initial push some paper towels some tongs and some high heat gloves First Step let’s get it up to medium heat to get the surface ready
5:30
all right we’re preheated The Griddle is nice and hot just for a quick test you can see we squirt some water on it we get that immediately like boiling sensation we know the griddle is ready to go next step grab your oil you just want to do like a little light coat just so you
5:45
can cover the surface grab your tongs paper towels make sure that’s evenly surfaced over here just going to want to make sure you do it all throughout you can see this is going to be
6:00
nice and ready if we start to smoking we know it’s going to be a little bit too hot so just turn the heat down and adjust accordingly we got this nice layer of oil on it last step it’s the one you’ve been waiting for we’re going to throw some bacon on and start cooking
6:30
all right class I hope you learned a thing or two about seasoning today unlike what a crazy commercial might tell you there’s a difference between seasoning and seasoning there’s nothing
6:45
more disgusting than a piece of unseasoned chicken but nothing more frustrating than a sticky unseasoned griddle anyways if you liked our videos be sure to give us a like subscribe to our
