RTA Outdoor Living Manufacturing | Step One

Ever wonder how our outdoor kitchens are made? Wonder no more!

Ward Schraeder joined us for a tour of the RTA Outdoor Living manufacturing facility. If you aren’t familiar with Ward Schraeder… He’s the co-star of HGTV’s Bargain Mansions with his daughter Tamara Day. We were honored to invite him to take a look at our manufacturing process. As you’ll see… There’s quite a lot involved! There are a total of five main steps to create an RTA outdoor kitchen.

Today, we’re going over step 1 of 5 of the process. Before our outdoor kitchens are molded… We need to make concrete. As our head of manufacturing Jon Bell will tell you… This was extremely difficult in the past! We’ve recently been able to streamline the mixing process significantly. Efficiency is essential to us at RTA Outdoor Living! We offer you a streamlined experience on the front end… So that should be the case on the back end as well.

Improving efficiency right from the jump is a huge part of this! The faster we can get our concrete mixed… The faster your outdoor kitchen will arrive. Our automated process also benefits consistency and quality. Every batch is produced the exact same way, every day. This allows us to ensure your outdoor kitchen is produced precisely as intended.

It’s a win win for all of us! Once the concrete is mixed… It’s time to pour. Be sure to check out step 2 of the RTA Outdoor Living manufacturing process to find out what’s next! Once again, special thanks to Ward Schraeder for joining us!

[Music] so john what did you start with and where have you had gotten to we started with this little hand mixer right here in a 70 quart tub now we’re at uh a batch plant uh with with the little mixer we could mix maybe a hundred pounds at a time and it was very labor intensive

00:33
with this system we can mix a thousand pounds at a time just by pressing a button came a long way it has come a long way quick and i would imagine the quality control is even better oh it’s so much better beforehand you had 50 pound bags of mix and

00:54
measuring water out by hand and measuring pigment out by hand and measuring fiber out by hand now with just a push of a button it tells me how many pounds of mix is going in the mixer how much water is going in the mixer how much pigment’s going in the mixer and

01:11
how much fiber is going in the mixer to all go in at one time mix accurately and then drop down and be ready to put in the molds all right well can i see the rest of the factory so this is our our batch plant area here this is where we actually mix the concrete what do you mix

01:30
we have dry mix that comes through the augers here it goes in for a little while spins around in there [Music] the water is added and then after a determined amount of time then the light goes off for the fiber and then we put the fiber in when we put it in we

01:49
put in a mixture to the computer we let it know how much we want and at the end of that we know it’s ready to discharge we dispatch it down to our grout home the computer itself has every recipe that we need to use so whether we’re pouring 300 pound batch or a thousand

02:07
pound batch it’s right here in the network so there’s no guessing game but then on the back side of that on our own quality control and quality assurance we keep logs of every batch that we pour every day and we can go back and look and say if there’s an issue

02:28
what happened we can tell you what the temperature of the air was that day we can tell you whether it’s raining we can tell you what the guy that’s making the batch had for breakfast good for you all right what a process [Music]
