RTA Outdoor Living Manufacturing | Step Three

After tuning into the first and second steps of the RTA Outdoor Living manufacturing process… It’s time to “top” it all off with countertop processing. Ward Schraeder of HGTV’s Bargain Mansions joins us once more to showcase how it’s done. Once our countertops are poured… The work doesn’t end there! There’s still quite a bit of processing that must be done.

After our concrete countertops are removed from their molds… They need some finishing touches. You’ll see in the video exactly what the finishing process entails! It’s an integral part of the RTA Outdoor Living manufacturing process.

First, you will see us trim off the overflow on the edges of the countertop. This ensures there is a nice, clean look on the chiseled edges. Next, we create cutouts for the appliances. These are carefully measured to ensure a perfect fit. From there… It’s time to sand! Our concrete countertops go through multiple stages of sanding to create a smooth finish.

After that, the countertops are cleaned off and sealed. You may be wondering… Why is sealing important? Well, it protects your countertop! Concrete is naturally a porous material. Applying a water-based food-safe sealer will ensure your countertop is protected from the elements. It won’t be damaged by the weather… Or the occasional spill!

We do recommend you reseal your countertops every 1-2 years to keep them in tip top shape. You’ve made it about halfway through the RTA Outdoor Living manufacturing process. There’s still two more steps to go! Be sure to tune into the rest of the process. You won’t want to miss it.

Thanks again to Ward Schraeder for joining us!
