RTA Outdoor Kitchen Assembly with Ward Schraeder

Interested in RTA… But feeling unsure about doing the RTA outdoor kitchen assembly? No need to fear.

In this video, Ward Schraeder joins us to walk you through the process… From start to finish! If you’re not familiar with Ward… He’s the co-host of HGTV’s Bargain Mansions, which he hosts with his daughter Tamara. Recently, Tamara worked with RTA for her own outdoor kitchen… And Ward decided to follow suit! We’re also joined by Jon Bell, the head of our manufacturing facility in Cambridge City, Indiana. So needless to say… This video is packed with valuable assembly information!

And by the end of it?

You’ll wonder why you were ever intimidated by the process! It truly couldn’t be simpler. First things first… You’ll have to uncrate your island panels! Carefully remove the panels, and set aside. You can also unbox your appliances at this stage. From there… It’s time to start assembling your panels.

Before you begin, it’s important to make sure that your surface is level. It’s likely your surface won’t be perfectly level… So every RTA outdoor kitchen comes with shims to adjust for this. Begin aligning your panels and ensure the tops are flush.

If everything’s looking good… Bolt your panels together with the provided L-brackets. The next step of RTA outdoor kitchen assembly? It’s time to apply your corners. Jon Bell will walk you through the process… And it won’t take more than a couple minutes! There’s a couple more steps left… But you’ll just have to watch the video to see how it’s done!

Feeling a little more confident about RTA outdoor kitchen assembly? If so… We’d be honored to help you with your project!

00:14
hi i’m ward schrader co-host of the hgtv

00:17
show bargain mansions with my daughter

00:18
tamara day

00:20
and i have received shipment of my rta kitchen

00:25
and ready to assemble by the way

00:27
and i was at the factory a few weeks ago

00:31
and i got to help manufacture some of

00:34
these kitchen and they are fabulous this

00:36
is as i remember 10 000 psi cement

00:40
and these crates each weigh

00:42
six seven eight hundred pounds

00:44
and

00:45
this is going to go together in just a

00:47
few hours and i’m gonna have a fabulous

00:50
kitchen so stick around let’s see what

00:52
happens

00:55
we’re gonna set it right up against this

00:56
coast right here

00:58
[Music]

01:08
so interestingly even though the

01:11
cabinetry is quite substantial this

01:14
foundation has a gradual slope about one

01:16
inch and every 10 feet but

01:18
that isn’t enough to to create any real

01:21
problems for the

01:23
rta kitchen and or the coyote appliances

01:29
[Music]

01:40
ward great patio here it’s nice flat

01:43
smooth got the correct amount of slope

01:45
to it

01:46
uh but we still will have issues with

01:48
the tops of our panels uh matching up

01:50
all you know all the time

01:52
and it’s very important when you slide

01:54
the front panel in with the

01:58
with the side panel

01:59
it’s important that those two pieces are

02:02
flush at the top sure so the shims we send

02:07
make sure your nice flush and even

02:09
you’re ready for to put your l bracket on

02:12
[Applause]

02:14
so it also is very simple as far as

02:16
materials and tools you send the l

02:18
bracket you send all the screws

02:20
you send not only all the screws but you

02:22
send this uh send this nut driver of the

02:25
appropriate size for the screws and the

02:28
only thing i have to provide is the

02:29
drill yeah that’s the only only thing we

02:31
don’t we provide every tool you need

02:33
other than the power tool awesome

02:56
[Music]

03:09
and these are all aluminum and the

03:11
screws are stainless you never have to

03:13
worry about it resting falling apart

03:16
so john what is what is this bar for

03:18
here isn’t it isn’t there a refrigerator

03:19
that goes in here yeah there is so this

03:22
bar here is put in at the factory um

03:25
when we cast this piece it was cast

03:27
upside down you saw it when you were

03:28
there what we have is a large piece of

03:31
concrete a large piece of concrete and a

03:33
small sliver above their fridge so we’ve

3:35
Reinforcement Braces

03:35
put these reinforcement braces in to keep anything from flexing and moving and keep it from cracking during chipping but once you get it over here this piece it’s just put on with a self tappers well there’s kind of a science to packaging this thing isn’t there yeah

03:54
like i said before they got to go clear across the country so we’re making sure that they make it alive well this is great so these are heavy enough we don’t secure them to the the other cabinet but the countertop will **** right up against this cabinet yeah

04:11
there is no reason to attach cabinet to cabinet they’re they’re heavy enough when you put them together they’re not going to go anywhere and then this is going to be a bar area with a refrigerator under it and and so there’ll be a different height and

04:24
different elevation to the cabinet yeah yep breaks up the kitchen nice uh gives you some nice elevation change the u-shape of it i really really like and not only that but there’s plenty of room coming out of the kitchen to get right into here do everything i need to do [Music]

04:47
why don’t you tell me about these corners these are substantially different than what i saw when i was at the factory last time yeah we uh we made a switch to concrete corners so everything is made in-house now got special molds made i think it looks a whole lot better oh

05:04
absolutely absolutely go on there that looks that looks substantial that looks finished they’re at a 90 degree angle uh you know exactly the with your corner of your kitchen the back the backs of them are smooth so it’s got a technology in it where you

05:23
push it on there hold it for five seconds it’s stuck you better have it in the right place yes yes so uh what i suggest is a nice healthy bead on the back of the corner all you want to do [Music] is push that corner nice and tight into the corner like i said hold it for

05:51
five ten seconds and she’s on there well if i liked it without the corners

5:56
Corners would i have to put them on they don’t add anything do they

6:00
Inside Corners

06:01
so our inside corners here especially our plank finish are made to where you can put a corner on it or not put a corner on it depends on your preference but as you can see you know our lines in the plank match so if you put them together they just go around same way with our weathered

06:16
wood same with our stack stone it it all comes together so uh once again it’s just your preference whether you want to put a corner on or not put a corner on if you are putting a corner on you’ve got a half inch gap here and it just does the same thing slides right in [Music]

06:38
give her a little love tap i’m not going anywhere and it gives it a finished look that looks great so these are ready to assemble kitchens they’re they’re monolithic panels so unlike other outdoor kitchens these units don’t take any framework or foundation so

07:01
you can put this on your wood deck you can pour it put this on your existing patio paver stamped concrete broom concrete whatever the system we have with the aluminum channels and the l-brackets and the self-tappers your front panel back panel side panels all go together

07:18
as the framework as the finished product as the the kitchen as a whole so there’s not three steps to the kitchen there’s only one step to the kitchen well it certainly makes for a quick and easy installation [Music] [Music] so i’ve built a lot of outdoor kitchens

08:42
and most of them i’ve built from scratch i can tell you this is about a hundred times easier than doing one from scratch framing up whether it be stone or wood or concrete or some other kind of medium it all requires lots of cutting and shaping and fitting this thing

09:02
we designed it online with their with the rta tools and it came in it was as rta stands for ready to assemble it took about eight screws on each corner that’s all and the cabinetry was together all the holes were cut in it slid the appliances in hooked them up put a top on it was

09:25
ready to go this was done literally in less than a day granite tops sinks counters everything [Music] so [Music] outdoor cooking spending time together this rta kitchen and coyote grills and all the accessories has been fantastic for bringing our family together [Music] you
