Uncrating Your RTA Island with Ward Schraeder

Before you begin your RTA outdoor kitchen install… You’ll have to uncrate your island panels! At first, the process may seem intimidating.

But once you see how it’s done… It’s really quite simple! To help show you the ropes, we enlisted the help of Ward Schraeder. Co-host of Magnolia Network’s Bargain Mansions with his daughter Tamara Day… Ward has plenty of experience with home improvement projects!

Recently, we worked with Ward for his own RTA outdoor kitchen… And he was kind enough to allow us to film the assembly process. You’ll also hear from our head of manufacturing, Jon Bell! Jon will explain the uncrating process step by step.

So without further ado… Let’s begin!

First things first… You’ll find uncrating instructions and a drill bit on the outside of your crate. So you will have a tangible guide to lead you through it. Next step is to begin removing some of the wood panels. Using your provided drill bit… Remove the panels in the order they are numbered on the side. Start with removing panel one, then panel two, and so on and so forth.

Once you hit panel 4… You will have some support braces to remove. This is no problem! There are just 4 screws on each brace you’ll have to remove. Behind panel 4, you’ll find a couple things. Your concrete corners, install kit, and installation guide will be here. From there… You will slowly cut straps to remove the concrete panels one at a time.

And once fully uncrated… You can start your RTA outdoor kitchen install! Not bad at all.

hello my name is ward schroeder i’m

00:10
co-host of the television show bargain

00:12
mansions with my daughter tamara day on

00:15
the magnolia network and a few weeks ago

00:18
i got to i got the pleasure of going to

00:20
indiana and working with rta to assemble

00:23
my kitchen and these products are all

00:25
made out of cement they’re pre-assembled

00:27
they’re pre-cut i’ll be able to drop in

00:29
my appliances my refrigerator my trash

00:32
can my range when all of this is

00:34
assembled and if you get a good look

00:36
there’s little brackets that are

00:38
embedded in the cement that attach the

00:40
cabinetry together

00:43
they’ve thought of almost everything

00:44
they even come

00:46
with instructions how to disassemble

00:48
the

00:49
crating

00:50
if you will along with a bit

00:54
already for your drill so that you don’t

00:56
have to think about too much to get this

00:58
done

00:59
so i’m excited to get this and get this

01:02
built installed so stick around and and

01:05
let’s get started

01:10
so as you talked before we’ve got the

1:11
Uncrating Instructions

01:12
uncrating instructions on the side of the crate each piece is numbered how you’re supposed to remove it so start with number one go to number two go to number three go to number four and then the back panel says do not remove you do not want to remove that panel so

01:33
we’ll go ahead and start with number one top bottom and middle [Music] when you get to number four you’re going to have these the braces ward where you it’s the support to keep it from shifting when they’re in the truck traveling down the road

01:58
each one of those will have four screws you’re going to want to remove then the number four panel has three screws at the top that are connected to the frame when you take off the number four panel you’re gonna find your corners

2:22
Install Kit

02:22
and you’re going to find your install kit every box comes with a nut driver and a t25 what’s this for john that is touch-up paint and touch-up sealer so if your stacked stone kitchen or your plant kitchen has a scratch in it when it comes in or there’s a flaw

02:45
very easy to just touch it up and hide that even comes with a brush yep uh that is lock tight uh adhesive so that’s how we will apply the corners okay it instantly grabs so you’re not having to worry about tape it you’re not having to worry about bungee cording or strapping

03:03
and the uh installation guide so the first thing everybody should know is don’t just start cutting all these straps correct because each set of straps holds a different sheet of of cement yes these are your concrete corners be careful with these i mean they’re they’re strong but you

03:21
don’t want to cut the strap and then let them fall

3:25
H Frame

03:25
we call this the h frame it’s what’s holding the the pieces together so you’re gonna have some screws in it well what i see from this john is that you are packaging these things as as professionally as it could possibly be done so that there is no damage in transport

03:43
correct we we want to pack them like a tank they’re made in cambridge city indiana and they’ll go to california they’ll go to florida they’ll go to texas new hampshire across the interstate and it’s a bumpy ride so we want to make sure that these things are protected

03:59
and there is no issue at all when they show up on your doorstep so it’s easy to know you’d cut these four straps first to get at the first one do not cut these back here or these back here that is correct always start with the first piece um we preach all the time these are not

04:18
for shipping reasons these are for unpacking reasons great thought process goes into all this cardboard in between each piece and styrofoam to protect it so you don’t have to use that touch-up paint [Music] so we’re going to be able to set it on

04:46
this relatively flat surface run it over through those posts and bring it back around i’m going to have this fabulous u-shaped working kitchen so thanks to rta and coyote this is going to be the best kitchen in the neighborhood [Music]
