[Music] hey what’s going on everyone it’s james here with rta outdoor living and we are back yet again bringing you another video packed full of value today the topic is built in grills because you can’t have an outdoor kitchen without a good quality built-in grill
00:23
speaking of quality how do you determine a good quality grill and what are the things that you should consider when deciding on the best grill for your outdoor kitchen in this video we are going to go over the four helpful considerations when choosing the right grill for your
00:38
project so you can be cooking in style in front of all your friends and family let’s get started the first
0:44
Choosing a Grill Class
00:45
consideration is going to be choosing what grill class is best for you this will be directly tied to your budget because there are significant differences in price between the different grill classes if you aren’t familiar with the different grill classes on the market there are three
01:01
different grill classes your grill could fall into
1:04
Economy Class
01:05
there is an economy class premium class and luxury class let’s go over the economy class first economy class grills are what many people are familiar with as they are widely available at big box stores like lowe’s and home depot they are typically the type of grills
01:21
people buy before stepping up into an outdoor kitchen because a lot of these grills are what are called cart models meaning they are meant to be a standalone grill and not built into an island economy grills will come with shorter term warranties usually in the 5 to 10 year range
01:36
as far as the price point these grills will be on the lower end of the market ranging from about five hundred dollars to fifteen hundred dollars and with the lower price point you can generally expect these grills to be manufactured out of lower grade materials
01:51
these grills also don’t offer many features and typically have a hard time getting up to high heats and maintaining even heat distribution throughout the grill economy grills are great starter options but they don’t offer much in the way of long-term durability as they are not
02:06
designed to last a lifetime and we would not recommend incorporating one of these grills into your outdoor kitchen if you are building a grill into what is meant to be a permanent structure you want to ensure that you are putting a grill that is designed to be permanent as well
02:21
otherwise you can have some big challenges down the road just because we would not recommend building them into an outdoor kitchen does not mean they aren’t great grills you just have to understand that these grills serve a certain purpose and are great to be
02:35
standalone grills not built into an island
2:38
Premium Class
02:38
premium grills these are usually going to be found at specialty appliance stores or online retailers this is where you will start to see a higher quality of construction where the grills are constructed out of 304 stainless steel with the higher grade materials you can
02:54
expect these grills to be built for the long haul lifetime warranties are pretty common across all premium grills the premium class is where you will start to see true built-in grills meaning they are specifically designed to be built into an outdoor kitchen island
03:09
this is where you will also start to be able to add features to your grill to give you more cooking versatility like rotisserie attachment smoker boxes and infrared burners for searing these grills will also perform much better than an economy level grill
03:24
giving you even heat distribution when cooking premium grills are going to be a jump up in pricing on the lower end premium grills will start around fifteen hundred dollars and go all the way up to around four thousand dollars for the larger and more high-end options that brings us to
3:40
Luxury Class
03:41
the last grill class the luxury class and this is where we get into the of the line options if you are looking to go above and beyond and really want the flashy bells and whistles and are really looking to splurge on your grill this could be the right class for you
03:56
these grilles are honestly phenomenal pieces of equipment and they don’t spare any expenses all luxury grills are meant to be built into an outdoor kitchen as they will pretty much all come with lifetime warranties they will also offer more in the way of
04:10
features and bells and whistles than a premium grill will with a luxury grill you will start to see things like spring assisted hoods digital controls and other exotic upgrades you will certainly have a pretty good jump in price to step up into the luxury class
04:24
where most of these grills are going to start in the 5 dollar range and can go all the way up to about ten thousand dollars plus for the more elaborate luxury grills in our honest opinion luxury grills are going to give you everything you could ever imagine in a grill but a lot of the
04:40
features and upgrades are not really necessary for most people unless you’re a gourmet chef or really looking to impress your friends you likely won’t be able to extract all the value to justify the big price jump
4:53
Size
04:53
size is an important consideration because you should really only be purchasing a good quality built-in grille once so you want to get the size right the first time around if you currently own a grill and the size you currently have is a good fit for your needs
05:07
then the size decision will be a pretty easy one if not the recommendation we would give to you is to determine how many people you will be cooking for on a daily basis and then consider the periodic cookouts that you may have throughout the year if you only cook for about four to five
05:23
people on a daily basis but will host several cookouts per year for about 12 to 15 people you really should be buying a grill that could accommodate the 12 to 15 people in our opinion it’s always best to buy a little bit bigger because you’ll be less
05:37
upset about having too much space versus not enough what your preferred cooking style is
5:41
Convenience
05:43
will be a big part of choosing the right grill for your needs you should ask yourself is convenience or flavor more important to you this will generally tell you what type of grill will be best for you whether it’s gas charcoal or a pellet grill
05:57
gas is by far the most convenient option available it is the easiest to start up and get up to heat and is the easiest in terms of maintenance and cleanup a charcoal grill will give you that classic smoky flavor but is more work and takes longer to get the grill up to
06:12
heat and certainly requires more effort to clean up and maintain the grill a pellet grill is a great option as it gives you the best of both worlds as it offers similar convenience to a gas grill with the flavor you want from a charcoal grill a pellet grill is actually one of the
06:27
most versatile grills available as you can bake sear and even slow cook food when considering a gas grill you will be left with the choice of natural gas or propane natural gas will have to come from a direct line and propane can come from either direct line or portable 20 pound tank
06:46
the direct line gives you the most convenience long term but does require more work on the front end where using propane tanks will be more convenient on the front end but will be an ongoing thing that you have to worry about when you need to refill your tanks when they run out the
7:00
Accessories
07:00
last consideration will be accessories the things that you can add to your grill to make it more versatile most of these features are going to be available on gas grills because gas grills out of the box don’t typically offer you a lot of versatility some gas models will come with
07:16
accessories already included with the grill these are usually found in the upgraded models these grills can typically come with rotisserie attachments infrared burners smoker boxes and other lighting packages the other accessories that could be added to your grill are things like a
07:33
drop in griddle these are great if you’re wanting to be able to cook some eggs and bacon outside but you don’t want to fully invest into a flat top griddle maybe you want a gas grill but want the ability to get some smoky flavor out of the gas grill you can get some charcoal trays that
07:49
could temporarily get you that flavor or how about a smoker box a smoker box can simply be added to give you that smoky flavor as well by adding some wood chips to the smoker box and dropping it into your grill it can temporarily give off that smoky flavor inside of your grill
