You’re in the middle of your outdoor kitchen research and you’re wondering… Who can I hire to build my Florida outdoor kitchen?
Living in the Sunshine State, you have plenty of options at your disposal!
The trouble is… You may not be sure where to start. It’s true, there’s a lot to consider.
What materials do you want it made of? What do you want the layout to look like? What timeline is your project on? What appliances do you want?
The answers will influence who you decide to work with.
It’s okay if you don’t have the answers now! Keep these questions in the back of your mind as you continue your research. As you start to formulate a plan… You’ll have a clear idea of who you need to build your project.
Speaking of which… Is it always necessary to hire a builder?
Quick Links:
Should I Hire a Builder?
Before you select a builder for your project… You have to determine if you need one at all.
This depends on a couple factors:
- The type of kitchen construction
- Your skill level
Common Types of DIY Outdoor Kitchens
Built From Scratch
🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨
Skill Level: High
RTF (Ready-to-Finish)
🔨🔨🔨
Skill Level: Medium
RTA (Ready-To-Assemble)
🔨
Skill Level: Low
If you choose a simpler method of construction… It’s more likely you’ll be able to complete the project on your own. Take RTA, for example. Our outdoor kitchens can be assembled in a few hours with no technical experience needed.
Once you get into a highly customized design with masonry… There’s a high skill cap required to complete the project. Unless you’re a professional, you’ll be looking to hire a builder!
Depending on the outdoor kitchen solution you want… You may or may not want to hire a builder. Assess your options, your skills, and see what fits best.

Hiring a Florida Builder vs. DIY
Let’s say you’re still not sure about hiring or doing the project yourself. Assessing the pros and cons should help you narrow down the decision.
Continuing from the previous section… Going DIY for an outdoor kitchen depends on your skill and the solution you choose. You may find a method that matches your skill and feels good. That’s great!
Other times… You may not feel skilled enough to achieve the end result you desire. This can happen with any solution. Some of us simply aren’t handy and that’s okay. In this case, you’ll want to consider hiring a builder.
Another aspect is budget. If you’re looking to save as much money as possible… Going DIY is definitely going to be appealing.
However, we would caution you against choosing DIY solely on price. A couple things can go wrong here. For one, you’ll likely end up purchasing poor quality outdoor kitchen materials because they’re cheaper. Second, your skill may not be high enough to complete the project.
You’ll end up with an outdoor kitchen that fails in a couple years… And seeing all that hard work go to waste would be extremely disheartening.
Ready-to-assemble outdoor kitchens are a great middle ground. You don’t have to be particularly handy. Even the average bear can do this without professional help!
Either way, you may have already decided to hire a builder. So… Do you hire a builder or contractor?
RTA Makes DIY a simple task
Outdoor Kitchen Builders vs. Contractors
Once you’ve decided to hire outside help… You’ll need to determine if you want a contractor or outdoor kitchen builder.
What’s the difference?
Sometimes, there’s not much!
By definition, builders specialize in outdoor kitchens. They do one thing and do it well.
Generally speaking, contractors work on a wide variety of household projects. There are some that specialize in outdoor kitchen construction… But not many.
This can spell trouble in a couple ways. For one, your local contractor may just be a generalist. They don’t have a ton of experience building outdoor kitchens. So it’s possible you end up with a kitchen that doesn’t meet your standards.
Another issue is timeline. Contractors are always in high demand. So if you choose to hire one… They are likely tied up with multiple different projects at the same time. This means your project could end up taking much longer than you expect.
In some cases, it takes weeks or even months for your custom outdoor kitchen to be completed. Also remember, that means your backyard is disturbed for this entire period of time! As long as you’re okay with your outdoor living space being unusable for a long time… Then a contractor may be fine for you.
That’s not to say hiring a contractor is a bad idea! You just have to carefully vet them before hiring.
More often than not, though… You’ll be better off working with a specialized builder.
How do I Find a Florida Outdoor Kitchen Builder?
If you’ve decided to hire a builder… How do you find one?
Well, in our highly technological age that’s pretty easy! Just a simple Google search will bring up virtually endless options.
The question really is… How do I find a good custom outdoor kitchen builder?
Determining the quality of a company is where the research comes in. Some builders have a barebones website with no reviews or pictures. That lack of information certainly makes you wonder…
Ideally, your builder has a website with plenty of information. It’s not a requirement, however. What’s more important are examples of previous projects and customer reviews.
Why?
You want to see what their work is like! Images of previous projects will give you a direct sense of the skill of your builder. You will also see if they excel at a particular style. Maybe it’s a style you like, maybe not! Either way… It will be evident if the builder can handle your project or not.
Reviews are equally important. Is the homeowner happy with their outdoor kitchen? Were problems resolved properly? Did they feel supported through the process? Were prices consistent and fair?
At the end of the day… Hiring the most skilled builder isn’t worth it if they don’t have integrity.
Good quality work + great customer service = your dream outdoor kitchen project.
If your builder meets this criteria… You can feel confident hiring them to build your summer kitchen.
Now that we’ve outlined the basics you need to know… Let’s discuss some of the builders you may find in your area.

Which Builder is Best?
This is a loaded question!
Forgive us in advance… As you probably won’t like this answer.
It depends.
Yes, the dreaded “it depends”. But it’s true!
The reality is… We don’t have intimate knowledge of the workings of these builders. As a result, it would be foolhardy of us to confidently recommend one builder over the other.
Even if this weren’t true, everyone has different needs. You may want a scratch-built outdoor kitchen… Or you may want one built from frames. This will cause you to choose one builder over another.
Ultimately… All of the builders listed above could be a great option for you. Most have glowing reviews. It simply comes down to your needs and who will work best for your project.
What to Look for in a Builder
Now that we’ve shown you examples of outdoor kitchen Florida builders… You may be confused on who to choose. Especially after the answer to your question above!
Perhaps it will help to give you some pointers on what to look for.
Quality
We all know an outdoor kitchen is a large investment. Therefore, you want it to last as long as possible!
And as we know… You get what you pay for.
The higher quality, the longer it will last. It’s just a fact. So be sure to ask your builder about the materials they use. For more information on what materials are best… Check out our outdoor kitchen materials blog.
So if your outdoor kitchen builder is charging you a suspiciously low price… Investigate the materials being used.
Warranty
Warranties tend to correlate with the quality of your outdoor kitchen. If it’s built with high quality materials… You can usually expect a high quality warranty.
A good warranty ensures your investment is protected. After spending all this money on your kitchen… The last thing you want is to shell out a ton of cash on repairs or replacements.
Make sure to ask your builder what they offer for a warranty. The longer the warranty, the better off you’ll be.
Also inquire about the warranty for your outdoor appliances. Do they offer a warranty, or are they backed by a manufacturer warranty? All important questions!
Customer Service
In the process of purchasing an outdoor kitchen… Customer service is often overlooked. This is especially important when you’re working directly with a builder.
What happens if something goes wrong? Are they going to work with you to resolve the problem? Will they support you even long after the kitchen is installed?
You want to know that if there is an issue… It will be resolved to your satisfaction.
In the process of vetting a builder, you’ll get a sense of their customer service. Also read all the reviews available. Oftentimes a reviewer will bring up a problem they have… This will tell you what their customer service is like.
Estimated Timeline
This more has to do with your expected timeline than the builder. Most homeowners underestimate how long an outdoor kitchen project can take… Especially when built from scratch.
In some cases, it can take weeks or even months from start to finish. If you need your project ready for a specific date… Get started early!
If you have an understanding of your builder’s timeline… You can plan ahead.
Consistent Pricing
Sometimes builders are sneaky. Certain aspects of your project will be conveniently left out of the proposal… Meaning you’re paying a lot more than you expected.
Also be aware of change orders. This is a frequent cause of unexpected additional costs.
For us, it’s important to know the full cost up front. You don’t want to be surprised later on and have to pay way more than you were told.
Before getting started on the project… Ask your builder to provide the complete cost upfront. This will prevent surprises and resentment later on.
